Introduction to Smalti Mosaics”
Saturday, February 21, 2025
10am - 5pm (1 hour break for lunch)
Handcrafted glass Smalti is one of the most beautiful and revered mosaic materials available. It has been used for centuries by mosaic masters worldwide in both traditional and contemporary mosaic work.
If you have never used this exquisite material in your mosaics, this workshop will provide an excellent introduction. We will learn about the different types of smalti, cutting methods and techniques, andamento (the layout and direction of your mosaic pieces), adhesives, and more. Dianne will provide a combination of slideshow presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on individual instruction.
Each participant will make a 6x6" mosaic, using traditional techniques. Patterns will be used to facilitate the process. All materials are provided. Participants should bring wheeled nippers, tweezers, palette knife, and a notebook. (Contact instructor if you don’t have your own tools: diannes@mac.com)
