Start your creative journey with a private Zoom session before joining us at the Austin Mosaic Guild for four exciting days of mosaic making and camaraderie. This immersive 4-day workshop, led by acclaimed glass mosaic instructor and artist Michelle Sider, will teach you her signature technique for crafting breathtaking textural landscape mosaic made from a combination of stained glass and smalti.
With her extensive experience as an art educator, Michelle creates a memorable and enriching learning experience, offering detailed tips and personalized feedback in a supportive and inspiring environment.
What to Expect:

Private Zoom Session: Begin with a one-on-one session to discuss image selection, color palettes, value, materials, and techniques, setting the foundation for your project.

In-Person Workshop: Dive into a dynamic learning experience that starts with a PowerPoint presentation, step-by-step instructions, and a live demonstration. Throughout the workshop, Michelle will guide you through advanced concepts such as color theory, value, composition, andamento, and textural design, helping you elevate your mosaic art.
By the end of this workshop, you'll have a deeper understanding of blending smalti with stained glass in a painterly manner and take home a beautifully textured mosaic.
Prerequisite: Previous mosaic experience is required.

About the Instructor: Michelle Sider
Michelle Sider is an award-winning mixed-media artist and highly sought-after mosaic instructor based in Metro Detroit. Known for her evocative glass mosaics and paintings, Michelle uses art as a powerful tool for connection and healing. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Detroit, she has spent 47 years blending her expertise in art, education, and counseling to inspire creativity and resilience in others.
Michelle’s art has been showcased in numerous award-winning exhibitions and is currently represented by esteemed galleries such as Twisted Fish Gallery (Elk Rapids, MI), Water Street Gallery (Douglas and Grand Rapids, MI), and Ambleside Gallery (Greensboro, NC). She is an active member of professional organizations including CMA2, SAMA, DFABC, BAMM, and the Detroit Artists Market.
In addition to her artistic achievements, Michelle is a co-author and illustrator of two books offering comfort and hope to individuals experiencing grief and loss. Her Huntington Woods, Michigan, studio serves as a hub for her creative work and teaching.
Drawing upon nearly five decades of teaching experience, Michelle’s workshops are celebrated for their depth, creativity, and personal touch. She combines practical expertise, classroom insight, and a passion for teaching to deliver highly engaging and informative sessions.
